Overview
- USCIS will only process renewals that include a new Form I-765 and the agency’s narrowly defined supporting evidence.
- Acceptable evidence consists of a copy of Form I-94, a copy of the most recent EAD, two passport-style photos, and Form G-28 if represented by counsel.
- Form I-94 functions as the admission record for most noncitizens entering by air or sea and is used to verify eligibility on the I-765.
- Permanent residents and certain nonimmigrant workers do not need an EAD because their green card or status already authorizes employment.
- To replace a lost, stolen, or damaged EAD, applicants must file a new I-765; USCIS fixes its own card errors without a new filing, applicant errors require refiling with fees, and omissions or mistakes can trigger delays or denial.
