Overview
- Renewal or replacement generally requires Form I-90 filed online or by mail, costing $415 online or $465 on paper.
- USCIS may schedule a biometrics appointment, and a new Permanent Resident Card is mailed after approval.
- Conditional residents must not use Form I-90, filing Form I-751 for marriage-based cases or I-829 for investors within 90 days before expiration.
- While waiting, an I-90 receipt with an expired card counts as evidence for work and travel for up to 24 months, or an ADIT stamp can be requested if the card is unavailable.
- CBP advises that trips of a year or more require a reentry permit via Form I-131, typically valid for two years, and USCIS warns that errors on Form I-485—especially Part 9 on public charge—can cause delays or rejections.
