USC Upsets No. 9 NC State on Jazzy Davidson’s Late Layup, Then Jumps to No. 8

The win propelled a retooled roster into the AP Top 10 after JuJu Watkins’ season-ending knee surgery.

  • Freshman Jazzy Davidson hit the go-ahead layup with 8.2 seconds left to seal No. 18 USC’s 69-68 win over No. 9 NC State at the Ally Tipoff in Charlotte.
  • Davidson scored 21 points with 18 after halftime and added four rebounds, four assists, three steals and five blocks in a breakout performance.
  • USC erased an 11-point fourth-quarter deficit, closed on a 19-7 run and turned 18 Wolfpack turnovers into 15 points, with Malia Samuels’ late steal helping preserve the result.
  • Londynn Jones provided 19 points off the bench, and Kennedy Smith contributed 10 points, eight rebounds and the inbounds pass that set up the winning basket.
  • Following the upset, the Trojans rose 10 spots to No. 8 in the AP poll; NC State was led by Zoe Brooks’ 24 points and 11 rebounds and Khamil Pierre’s 18 boards, and USC next hosts No. 2 South Carolina on Saturday.
