USC Doctoral Student Charged in Drug-Facilitated Sex Assaults as Police Seek Additional Victims

Investigators opened the case after a German tip that triggered a joint probe with the FBI and Germany’s federal police.

Overview

  • Weng, 30, has pleaded not guilty to eight felonies including forcible rape, rape by controlled substance, two counts of sodomy by controlled substance or anesthesia, and four counts of sexual penetration by controlled substance or anesthesia.
  • LAPD alleges he spiked victims’ food or drinks with incapacitating substances whose effects were described as similar to Rohypnol, though the specific drugs were not identified.
  • A search of his residence near USC recovered evidence that police say corroborates multiple drug-facilitated assaults from 2021 through 2025.
  • He was arrested on Aug. 28, is being held without bail at Twin Towers, faces 25 years to life plus 56 years and lifetime sex-offender registration if convicted, and is next due in court on Jan. 14, 2026.
  • Authorities believe there may be additional victims in Los Angeles or abroad and urged tips to LAPD Robbery-Homicide or LA Regional Crime Stoppers, while USC says he has been barred from campus pending the case.
