US Woman Extradited to UK Charged in 2019 Birmingham Murder Plot

Aimee Betro, 45, faces charges including conspiracy to murder, firearm possession, and ammunition importation after her extradition from Armenia.

Aimee Betro, a US citizen from Wisconsin, has been charged with conspiracy to murder a Birmingham shop owner and his family in 2019.
Betro is also accused of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and illegally importing ammunition into the UK.
Authorities allege that Betro, disguised in a hijab, attempted to shoot Sikander Ali outside a Birmingham residence, but the weapon jammed, allowing him to escape.
The charges follow her July 2024 arrest in Armenia, where she had been in hiding, and her subsequent extradition to the UK by the National Crime Agency.
Two men, Mohammed Aslam and Mohammed Nazir, were previously convicted and sentenced for their roles in orchestrating the murder plot.
