U.S. Widens Listeria Alert to Walmart and Trader Joe’s Pasta Meals After Genetic Match

Overview

  • The CDC reports 20 illnesses, 19 hospitalizations and four deaths across 15 states in the ongoing outbreak.
  • FSIS named specific lots of Marketside Linguine with Beef Meatballs & Marinara Sauce (best-by Sept. 22–Oct. 1) and Trader Joe’s Cajun Style Blackened Chicken Breast Fettuccine Alfredo (best-by Sept. 20, 24, 27).
  • FreshRealm says the contamination originated from a third-party pasta ingredient, and USDA identified the supplier as Nate’s Fine Foods.
  • Walmart and Trader Joe’s removed the products and advise customers to discard or return them, noting items may still be in home refrigerators or freezers.
  • Health agencies continue sequencing and traceback work and urge high-risk individuals to monitor for listeriosis symptoms and sanitize any surfaces the meals touched.
