US, UK and Australia Sanction Russia-Based Media Land Over Ransomware Ties

The move seeks to choke off bulletproof hosting that supports ransomware by freezing assets, with guidance urging ISPs to isolate the networks.

Overview

  • Officials designated Media Land, sister firms ML Cloud, Media Land Technology and Data Center Kirishi, and executives Aleksandr Volosovik, Kirill Zatolokin and Yulia Pankova.
  • Authorities said Media Land’s infrastructure supported ransomware groups such as LockBit, BlackSuit and Play as well as DDoS operations against companies and critical systems.
  • Treasury also targeted Hypercore Ltd. as a front for previously sanctioned Aeza Group, adding Aeza-linked facilitators to counter sanction evasion.
  • The measures freeze property and bar transactions in the US, UK and Australia, while Australia’s regime adds criminal penalties for dealing with the targets and imposes travel bans.
  • Five Eyes cyber agencies issued mitigation guidance for ISPs and defenders, and experts warned the networks may remain reachable until peering partners cut connectivity.
