Overview
- Gallup reports just 28% of Americans have a great deal or fair amount of confidence in newspapers, television and radio, the first reading below 30% and down from 31% last year and 40% five years ago.
- Roughly seven in 10 express skepticism toward the media, including 36% with not very much confidence and 34% with none at all.
- Trust varies sharply by party: Republicans register 8% (the first single-digit result), Democrats 51%, and independents 27%, all at or near lows in the trend.
- A pronounced age gap persists, with 43% of adults 65 and older expressing trust versus no more than 28% in any younger cohort based on 2023–2025 combined data.
- Separate THR/Morning Consult polling shows many named TV news anchors draw substantially higher personal trust than the low institutional ratings captured by Gallup.
