Overview
- The 14 Mexican nationals, convicted of federal drug trafficking and unlawful firearm possession, were moved on December 5 to complete remaining terms ranging from 22 months to four and a half years in Mexico.
- Each transfer was voluntary and proceeded only after approval by both governments under the prisoner-transfer treaty.
- The DOJ’s Office of International Affairs executed the operation through its International Prisoner Transfer Unit with support from the Bureau of Prisons.
- This was the third U.S.-to-Mexico transfer in 2025, following earlier groups repatriated in April and August.
- In a reciprocal move, U.S. authorities received three Americans convicted abroad of controlled-substance trafficking to serve their sentences in the United States.
