U.S. Stock and Bond Markets Closed for New Year’s Day 2025

Trading will resume on January 2, with another closure scheduled on January 9 to honor former President Jimmy Carter.

  • The next U.S. market closure will occur on January 9, 2025, to observe a national day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter, who passed away on December 30, 2024, at the age of 100.
  • Banks and federal services, including Federal Reserve Banks and the U.S. Postal Service, are also closed on New Year’s Day.
