U.S. Seizes Nearly 2,000 Pounds of Cocaine and Meth in Canada-Bound Trucks at Michigan Crossings

CBP with HSI reports Sept. 11 interceptions after surveillance led to secondary inspections at the Detroit and Port Huron ports.

Overview

  • Officials said officers found about 1,058 pounds of cocaine hidden in boxes and duffel bags inside a commercial trailer at Detroit’s Ambassador Bridge Fort Street Cargo Facility.
  • A separate stop at the Blue Water Bridge in Port Huron yielded roughly 972 pounds of methamphetamine packed in hundreds of bags inside a Canada-bound trailer.
  • CBP described layered enforcement that included surveillance, referrals to secondary inspection, canine alerts and field testing to confirm the narcotics.
  • Drivers were taken into custody, the trucks and trailers were seized, and the cases were referred for federal prosecution.
  • The seizures occurred on Sept. 11 and were publicly disclosed on Sept. 15, with CBP leadership citing ongoing interagency efforts to disrupt cross-border drug smuggling.
