U.S. Sees Record Surge in International College Enrollment, Led by India

Graduate Programs, Particularly in Math and Computer Science, See Significant Increase

International student enrollment in U.S. colleges and universities increased by 12% in the 2022-23 academic year, the fastest growth rate in over 40 years, bringing the total to over 1 million students.
India saw a 35% increase in students coming to the U.S., with nearly 269,000 students enrolled, the highest number in history, and second only to China.
Graduate programs saw a significant increase with a 21% rise in enrollment, particularly in math and computer science programs which saw a 20% boost in enrollment.
China, despite remaining the largest source of international students, saw its numbers decrease for a third consecutive year.
International students now make up 5.6% of all college students in the U.S., playing a significant role in U.S. higher education both for global exchange and revenue, as they are often charged higher tuition rates.
