US Sanctions Iranian Funders and Trainers of Hamas in New Push to Cut Off Terror Group's Funding

US blacklists Iranian military officials and organizations with alleged funding links to Hamas, additionally targeting Hamas' ties to Iran and extending reach to entities in Sudan, Turkey, and Spain in a global crackdown on terror financing.

  • The United States has implemented a fresh round of sanctions focused on curtailing funding for the Palestinian group, Hamas. These sanctions encompass individuals and organizations ranging from Iran, Sudan, and Turkey, to Spain.
  • The new sanctions underscore Iran’s role in providing funding and operational support to Hamas, targeting key members of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hamas representatives in Iran, and various organizations linked to terrorist groups.
  • Khaled Qaddoumi, a liaison between Hamas and the Iranian government, and Ali Morshed Shirazi and Mostafa Mohammad Khani, officials in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, are among the key individuals targeted in the sanctions.
  • Sanctions were also leveled at organizations like Iranian Bonyad Shahid (Martyrs Foundation). This foundation is alleged to funnel millions of dollars through the Gaza-based Al-Ansar Charity Association to support the families of militants, serving as a recruitment tool for terrorist activities.
  • The sanctions freeze any U.S.-based assets owned or controlled by the targeted entities and bar any financial transactions with them. Additionally, the contribution of funds, goods, and services to these entities is prohibited.
