U.S. Sanctions Defense Procurement Network Over Russia's Ukraine Invasion

Belgium-based Hans De Geetere leads the targeted network; additional sanctions imposed on entities and individuals linked to Belarusian President Lukashenko.

  • The U.S. imposed fresh Russia-related sanctions targeting a defense procurement network led by Belgium-based Hans De Geetere.
  • The network, which procures electronics with military applications for Russia, includes nine entities and five people based in Russia, Belgium, Cyprus, Sweden, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands.
  • The U.S. Department of Justice unsealed two indictments against De Geetere related to his scheme to export sensitive, military-grade technology from the U.S. to end users in China and Russia.
  • The U.S. Treasury Department also imposed sanctions on 11 entities and seven people to increase pressure on Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko over his suppression of democratic civil society, corrupt financial enrichment of his family, and complicity in Russia's war in Ukraine.
  • The U.S. is committed to working with allies and partners to expose and degrade networks engaged in Russia’s military procurement and disrupt the Kremlin’s access to the tools it uses to perpetuate its war against Ukraine.
