Iván Cazarín Molina, known as 'El Tanque,' is sanctioned by the U.S. for leading the fuel theft division of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
Cazarín Molina's operation involves selling stolen gasoline through a network of legitimate-looking businesses, generating tens of millions of dollars annually.
The U.S. Treasury's sanctions target nine individuals and 26 entities linked to the CJNG's fuel theft activities.
Fuel theft remains a major issue in Mexico, costing the government and Pemex billions of dollars.
The sanctions freeze the assets of those involved and prohibit U.S. citizens from conducting business with them.
