Overview
- The Treasury on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2026, designated 17 vessels it says are linked to Iran’s ‘shadow fleet’ and said the action neutralizes the vast majority of that maritime network.
- The State Department separately sanctioned ten entities, six individuals and five vessels and specifically named two Mumbai firms — SSPL Solutions and Samudra Marine Services — plus five Indian nationals.
- Treasury ordered U.S. persons to block and report assets of designated parties to OFAC and warned that banks or companies that transact with the targets could face civil, criminal or secondary sanctions.
- The agency removed two ships from prior listings after they were sold to non-sanctioned operators and gave Samudra Marine Services a limited wind-down authorization through Oct. 23, 2026.
- The action builds on July’s reimposition of a U.S. blockade and September strikes on shadow-fleet tankers, and it raises risks for global shipping firms, insurers and banks that handle Iranian-origin oil or related transactions.
