Overview

  • ODI opened the investigation on August 20 after receiving 414 complaints of connecting rod bearing failures in Honda and Acura 3.5-liter V6 engines.
  • The preliminary evaluation covers about 1,410,806 vehicles, including 2018–2020 Acura TLX, 2016–2020 Acura MDX, 2016–2020 Honda Pilot, 2018–2020 Honda Odyssey, and 2017–2019 Honda Ridgeline models.
  • Regulators say numerous reported failures occurred outside Honda’s November 2023 recall of roughly 249,000 vehicles for a crankshaft manufacturing defect.
  • The failure mode can lead to sudden engine seizure, stalling or increased fire risk, with some crashes or fires reported and no injuries identified.
  • Honda has not announced a new recall or public statement as NHTSA evaluates the scope, severity and potential safety remedies.
