US Regulators Close Investigations into Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler SUV Problems Without Mandating Recalls
Investigations into over 1,600 complaints of electronic parking brakes activating inadvertently on 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokees, and complaints of frame weld problems on 2018 and 2019 Jeep Wranglers concluded with no accidents or injuries reported; Stellantis has addressed prior steering concerns with a 2018 recall and design changes.
- The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has closed two investigations into problems with Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler SUVs without mandating recalls.
- The investigations originally began due to over 1,600 complaints of electronic parking brakes inadvertently activating on 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokees, usually when the vehicles were stationary or moving at low speeds.
- The regulators also looked into complaints of frame weld problems on 2018 and 2019 Jeep Wrangler SUVs, with over 3,500 owners reporting issues, including steering problems such as shimmies or wobbles.
- Despite the large number of complaints, no accidents or injuries caused by these issues have been reported.
- The car manufacturer Stellantis has addressed the reported steering concerns with a previous 2018 recall and also by implementing design changes and making other repairs.
