Overview

  • NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opened a formal Recall Query in December 2025 to evaluate the effectiveness of Jeep’s repair.
  • The 2023 recall covered more than 330,000 Grand Cherokees from model years 2021–2023 for a rear suspension defect that could let a coil spring break loose.
  • Since the recall took effect, NHTSA has logged 20 complaints involving allegedly repaired vehicles, in addition to 21 incidents documented before the recall.
  • Jeep initially attributed the problem to a one-time assembly error and directed dealers to inspect the rear suspension and reinstall any mispositioned springs.
  • If the remedy is deemed inadequate, regulators could require Stellantis to issue a new or expanded recall, as detached springs can impair handling and create road debris hazards.
