U.S. Park Police Officer Injured After Being Struck on Baltimore–Washington Parkway in Riverdale

Both drivers were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

Overview

  • First responders were dispatched around 3:20 a.m. to northbound Route 295 near the Route 410 ramp in Riverdale for a multi-vehicle crash.
  • Officials say the officer was outside a patrol cruiser investigating a disabled vehicle when another car struck the officer and the cruiser.
  • The officer was treated on scene and airlifted by a U.S. Park Police helicopter to a local hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, with release expected later today.
  • The striking vehicle remained at the scene, the patrol vehicle was damaged and towed, and a multi-agency investigation is underway.
  • Northbound lanes were temporarily closed for the investigation and medical helicopter operations and have since reopened.
