Overview

  • Tournament referee Jake Garner levied $30,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct and $12,500 for racket abuse following Medvedev’s first-round loss.
  • USTA officials said the photographer disregarded security instructions and pulled his credential for entering the court at Louis Armstrong Stadium.
  • With Benjamin Bonzi serving on match point, chair umpire Greg Allensworth ordered a replayed first serve, leading to a delay of more than six minutes as Medvedev confronted him and inflamed the crowd.
  • Bonzi defeated Medvedev 6-3, 7-5, 6-7 (5), 0-6, 6-4, after which Medvedev repeatedly smashed his racket against his sideline chair.
  • The penalties cost Medvedev more than a third of his $110,000 prize money and come during a run of three straight first-round Grand Slam exits.
