US Navy Jet Shot Down in Friendly Fire Incident Over Red Sea

Two pilots ejected safely after their F/A-18 was mistakenly hit by a missile cruiser, as US forces target Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The USS Gettysburg, part of the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group, mistakenly fired on an F/A-18 Super Hornet shortly after it launched from the carrier.
Both Navy pilots ejected from the aircraft and were rescued, with one sustaining minor injuries, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).
The incident occurred during ongoing US military operations targeting Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, including airstrikes on missile storage and command facilities.
CENTCOM stated the friendly fire event was not caused by hostile actions, and a full investigation into the circumstances is underway.
The Red Sea region has seen heightened tensions and military activity as Houthis continue attacks on shipping and claim solidarity with Gaza in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
