U.S. Mobilizes First Wave of Marines to Bolster ICE Logistics in Florida

The initial 200-Marine contingent will handle administrative supply tasks under strict oversight to expand ICE’s field capacity

Overview

  • Approximately 200 Marines from Marine Wing Support Squadron 272 have arrived in Florida under Title 10 authority to manage administrative processing, data entry and logistical coordination for ICE
  • Under strict oversight, the Marines are barred from any detention or enforcement actions, including direct contact with individuals in ICE custody to maintain Posse Comitatus compliance
  • Shifting paperwork and facility support to military personnel frees ICE agents to concentrate on field operations and deportation missions
  • Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved up to 700 active-duty, National Guard and reserve forces for interior enforcement support following a Department of Homeland Security request on May 9
  • Plans call for additional Marine and Guard deployments to Texas and Louisiana later this quarter under the same non-enforcement mandate
