U.S. Mint Releases Commemorative Harriet Tubman Coins

The coins, celebrating the bicentennial of Tubman's birth, depict her role in the Underground Railroad and her service as a spy and nurse.

Three commemorative coins featuring Harriet Tubman were released for purchase by the U.S. Mint. They are a gold five-dollar coin, a silver one-dollar coin, and a half-dollar coin.
The coins were made available for pre-order on Thursday, Jan. 4, and are expected to begin shipping in February.
The coins celebrate the bicentennial of Harriet Tubman's birthday and depict different moments from her life, including her role as a 'conductor' on the Underground Railroad and her service as a spy and nurse.
President Biden signed legislation to create the coins in August 2022, which was introduced by Representative Gregory W. Meeks, Democrat of New York, during Black History Month in February 2020.
Proceeds from the sale of the coins will go to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Harriet Tubman Home in Auburn, New York.
