U.S. Marshals Arrest Paul Sandoval on Blanca Peak After Five-Day Manhunt

A U.S. Marshals task force zeroed in on him using a coordinated search across Blanca Peak’s rugged terrain.

  • Sandoval, 62, had been wanted since 2021 on allegations he sexually assaulted an 8-year-old, with charges including eight counts of sexual assault on a child, false imprisonment, and child abuse.
  • Officers located him Sunday around 10:20 a.m. near Lake Como Road on Blanca Peak; after he refused commands, less-lethal tools were used and no serious injuries were reported.
  • Investigators re-identified him in late August after break-ins in Alamosa County, with surveillance confirming his presence in the area and that he carried a rifle.
  • More than 70 personnel from federal, state, and local agencies joined the operation, led by the Colorado Violent Offender Task Force and the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office.
  • He is being held at the Alamosa County Jail on $75,000 bond pending transfer and further court proceedings.
