Overview

  • KT Services & Logistics and its founder Jonathan Myo Kyaw Thaung were removed from the US sanctions list.
  • The MCM Group and owner Aung Hlaing Oo, Suntac Technologies and Sit Taing Aung, and associate Tin Latt Min also had their designations lifted.
  • Those entities were originally blacklisted in January 2022 and again in 2024 for their ties to Myanmar’s military and defense sector.
  • The Treasury Department did not explain the decision and the White House declined to comment on the move.
  • Observers say the decision underscores US efforts to secure Myanmar’s rare earth minerals for defense and technology uses in competition with China, while Human Rights Watch calls the move extremely worrying.
