US Lawmakers Question Apple Over Cancellation of Jon Stewart's Show

Concerns Raised Over Potential Chinese Influence on Apple's Content Decisions

US lawmakers have sent a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook seeking an explanation for the cancellation of Jon Stewart's show on Apple TV+ amid reports that the tech giant was concerned about potential episodes focusing on China and artificial intelligence.
The bipartisan House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party has asked Apple to provide a briefing on the matter by December 15, 2023.
The committee has also requested that Apple publicly commit to allowing content critical of the Chinese Communist Party on its streaming platform.
Apple's business model is heavily reliant on China, with nearly a fifth of the company's revenues coming from the country and over 95% of iPhones, AirPods, Macs, and iPads being made in Chinese factories.
Jon Stewart reportedly walked away from the show after Apple executives expressed concerns about potential show topics related to China and artificial intelligence, and refused to give him full creative control.
