U.S., Japan Set Resolute Dragon 25 for Sept. 11–25 With Integrated Missile Forces

The drill will test layered sea-denial and long-range strike integration across Japan.

Overview

  • III MEF and the Japan Self-Defense Force will run a classified command post exercise Sept. 11–17 followed by field training Sept. 17–25 across multiple sites, including the Southwest Islands.
  • About 5,200 U.S. personnel from the Marine Corps with Navy, Air Force, and Army elements will train alongside roughly 14,000 troops from the JGSDF Western Army and the JMSDF.
  • Featured systems include the Marine Corps’ NMESIS and MADIS, Japan’s Type 12 surface-to-ship missile, and the U.S. Army 3rd Multi-Domain Task Force’s Typhon, which will deploy to MCAS Iwakuni to build a layered fires network.
  • Training will span force-on-force events, logistics moves using the Autonomous Low-Profile Vessel, and live-fire drills that pair Marine HIMARS with the JGSDF Multiple Launch Rocket System.
  • The 3rd Marine Division has trained with NMESIS on Okinawa since its July 10 arrival and previously exercised it in the Philippines, though officials have not specified any NMESIS live-fire during this exercise.
