US figure skaters, who were upgraded to gold medal winners after Russian skater Kamila Valieva's disqualification for doping at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, are calling for a special medal ceremony at the upcoming Paris Summer Olympics.
The International Skating Union's ruling has moved Japan from bronze to silver, while Russia's team, even after being stripped of the points Valieva earned, will still capture the bronze, leading to potential appeals from Canadian officials.
US Olympic and Paralympic Committee CEO Sarah Hirshland has confirmed that the US team will receive the gold medals, regardless of any appeals, but the logistics of the ceremony have not been set.
Kamila Valieva, now 18, has been banned for four years dating back to Dec. 25, 2021, the date of the positive test, which will end about two months before the next Winter Games in Italy in 2026.
Of the nine athletes who were part of the US team in Beijing, Madison Chock and Evan Bates are the only skaters still competing today.
