Overview

  • The U.S. launched Operation Midnight Hammer on June 21, deploying over 125 aircraft, including seven B-2 Spirit stealth bombers, in coordinated strikes on Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan.
  • For the first time in combat, U.S. forces used GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators to penetrate underground bunkers at Fordow while Tomahawk missiles from submarines hit Natanz and Isfahan.
  • Pentagon officials said the strikes substantially damaged Iran’s key enrichment infrastructure without targeting civilian areas or aiming to induce regime change.
  • Iran’s Atomic Energy Organisation confirmed the attacks but vowed to continue its nuclear program and warned of “everlasting consequences” in response.
  • United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other world leaders condemned the operation, expressing concern over a further escalation in regional tensions.
