Overview

  • The Department of Transportation now requires all Mexican carriers to file U.S. flight schedules in advance and secure DOT approval for large charter services.
  • A show-cause order threatens to revoke the Delta-Aeromexico joint venture’s antitrust immunity, with a final decision slated for October.
  • Directives that took effect July 20 will remain until Mexico restores cancelled slots for U.S. airlines and reverses its 2023 cargo relocations from Mexico City’s main airport.
  • Mexican officials have not formally replied to the DOT’s orders, and Delta and Aeromexico are preparing a joint rebuttal to the measures.
  • The DOT signaled it could apply similar measures to European states that impose unjustified operational restrictions at their airports.
