U.S. Ends Family Reunification Parole for Seven Countries, Sets Jan. 14 Cutoff

Officials say the policy returns parole to case-by-case reviews to curb fraud-related security gaps.

Overview

  • DHS announced the immediate termination of Family Reunification Parole covering nationals of Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti and Honduras.
  • To keep protections tied to a pending green card case, beneficiaries must have filed Form I-485 by Dec. 15, 2025.
  • All remaining FRP benefits will end automatically on Jan. 14, 2026, and employment authorization based on FRP will be revoked, with individual notices to follow.
  • Authorities urge voluntary departure and reporting via the CBP Home app, offering financial assistance, travel-document help and certain civil fine waivers to eligible returnees.
  • Future entries will no longer be granted through FRP as a program, with parole decisions reverting to individualized assessments under U.S. law based on DHS’s stated security and fraud concerns.
