US Deters Iran's Attempts to Seize Oil Tankers in Gulf of Oman

Iran claimed to have court orders allowing the seizure of two oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
Iranian naval forces opened fire on and attempted to capture the Richmond Voyager oil tanker in international waters.
The US Navy intervened and forced the Iranian vessels to stand down, allowing both tankers to continue their voyages.
Separately, Iran's Revolutionary Guard seized another unidentified commercial ship suspected of smuggling in the Arabian Gulf with no US response.
The series of confrontations comes amid high tensions between the US and Iran over Iran's nuclear program and sanctions.
