U.S. Designates Palestine Action as Global Terrorist Entity

The Treasury’s SDGT labeling freezes U.S. assets, bars American dealings, risks extraterritorial financial effects, sets up new legal fights as the group's UK ban goes to the Supreme Court.

Overview

  • On Aug. 26, 2026 the U.S. Treasury placed Palestine Action on its Specially Designated Global Terrorist list, immediately blocking any assets in U.S. jurisdiction and forbidding U.S. persons or companies from providing funds, goods, or services.
  • The sanctions, announced by Treasury and enforced by OFAC, also named Italy-based Autistici/Inventati and Masar Badil and form part of a White House effort to target what officials call violent ‘far-left’ networks.
  • The U.S. move builds on the U.K. proscription of Palestine Action in July 2025 and comes as co-founder Huda Ammori prepares to press a Supreme Court challenge to the British ban with hearings scheduled between October and December 2026.
  • Civil liberties and human-rights groups say the terrorism label risks criminalizing lawful protest and warn that the designation could chill speech, disrupt peaceful organizing, and expand state power over dissent.
  • Practically, supporters and donors face blocked bank accounts, limits on fundraising, possible secondary sanctions and U.S. visa bans, and international banks that process payments for the group risk losing U.S. access if they knowingly facilitate transactions.
