Overview
- Approximately 200 Marines from Marine Wing Support Squadron 272 arrived in Florida on July 3 to begin interior deportation support operations
- The service members will perform strictly non-enforcement duties including paperwork processing, data entry, supply coordination and facility maintenance
- Their mission operates under Title 10 authority and adheres to the Posse Comitatus Act to bar them from arrests or direct detainee contact
- Pentagon officials say the troop support will free ICE agents from clerical tasks so they can focus on field deportation efforts
- Additional active, Guard and reserve units are scheduled to deploy to support ICE operations in Texas and Louisiana under the same 700-troop authorization
