U.S. Defender John Tolkin Transfers to Bundesliga's Holstein Kiel

The 22-year-old leaves the New York Red Bulls for a $3 million deal as Holstein Kiel fights to avoid relegation in its debut Bundesliga season.

John Tolkin, a 22-year-old U.S. defender, has signed with Bundesliga club Holstein Kiel from Major League Soccer's New York Red Bulls for a $3 million transfer fee.
The New York Red Bulls will retain a sell-on percentage in the event of a future transfer involving Tolkin.
Tolkin, who debuted in MLS in 2021, recorded seven goals and 12 assists in 114 appearances and was named an MLS All-Star in 2023.
He has made four appearances for the U.S. Men's National Team and played a key role in the 2024 Paris Olympics squad.
Holstein Kiel, newly promoted to the Bundesliga, is currently 17th in the league and faces a challenging battle to avoid relegation.
