U.S. Daylight Saving Time Starts March 8, 2026

Several states and territories keep standard time year-round, per federal rules.

Overview

  • Clocks move from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 8, with the return to standard time set for Sunday, November 1 when clocks shift back one hour.
  • Hawaii, most of Arizona with the Navajo Nation as an exception, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa do not observe the change.
  • NIST advises that phones, computers, and WWVB-synchronized radios typically update automatically, while older internally programmed clocks, including AUTOSET or SMARTSET models, may require manual correction or manufacturer updates.
  • Sleep specialists warn of short-term health and safety risks from the clock shift and recommend seven to eight hours of sleep, moving bedtime 15–20 minutes earlier in the days before the change, adjusting meal times, and getting morning sunlight after the switch.
  • Efforts to make daylight saving time permanent remain unresolved after the Senate’s 2022 approval of the Sunshine Protection Act, with action stalling again in the House in 2025.
