US Commerce Department and Chainlink Put BEA Economic Data on Ten Public Blockchains

The move gives smart contracts direct, verifiable access to official GDP and inflation figures, potentially changing how markets and DeFi products respond to U.S. statistics.

Overview

  • The Commerce Department and Chainlink announced Tuesday, Sept. 1 that six Chainlink data feeds are live, reporting levels and quarter-over-quarter annualized changes for Real GDP, the PCE Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers.
  • Those six feeds are available on ten networks — Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Avalanche, Optimism, Linea, Mantle, ZKsync, Botanix and Sonic — and update on the same monthly or quarterly schedule the BEA uses so onchain values match official releases.
  • Chainlink says its feed infrastructure holds ISO 27001 certification and a SOC 2 Type 1 attestation, and the Commerce Department has previously published cryptographic hashes on blockchains to let users verify the integrity of BEA reports.
  • Developers and financial firms can use the feeds to build products such as inflation-linked tokens, prediction markets, automated risk models, and smart-contract settlement tools, though applications will still face smart-contract, market, and data-integration risks that can affect users’ funds.
  • The Chainlink rollout expands a broader Commerce program that in August 2025 placed BEA figures and hashes on multiple chains with partners including Pyth and several exchanges, and Chainlink said it can add more networks on demand as observers track real-world uptake.
