Congress now reviews the deal funded by European partners with a U.S. loan guarantee.

Overview

  • The State Department approved a proposed sale of 3,350 Extended Range Attack Munition missiles and related equipment, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency notified Congress for required review.
  • Denmark, the Netherlands, and Norway are financing the purchase, supplemented by a U.S. loan guarantee, according to the DSCA.
  • The package includes GPS guidance kits, electronic warfare defenses, mission planning software, spares, and technical support, with the weapons described by a manufacturer as having a range of several hundred miles.
  • The Pentagon named Zone 5 Technologies and CoAspire as the prime contractors, and contract data show roughly $67.3 million has been obligated via Other Transaction Agreements to accelerate prototyping.
  • The Wall Street Journal reported that initial deliveries could begin in about six weeks and that any strikes into Russian territory would require case-by-case approval from the Pentagon.
