U.S. Clears $330 Million Aircraft Parts Sale to Taiwan in First Trump-Era Approval

The Pentagon says the package sustains Taiwan’s aircraft readiness.

Overview

  • The State Department endorsed the deal and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency formally notified Congress.
  • The request covers components, spare and repair parts and accessories for F-16s, C-130s and Taiwan-made aircraft, plus U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support.
  • Taiwan’s defense ministry thanked Washington and said the package bolsters combat readiness, strengthens air defense and counters China’s gray-zone coercion.
  • The announcement follows a recent Trump–Xi meeting in South Korea that prompted concerns in Taipei, and Trump said Xi told him China would not invade during his term.
  • Cross-strait tensions persist, with Taiwan reporting 21 Chinese aircraft and three naval vessels around the island before 6 a.m. Friday, as Taipei also manages delays in its separate F-16 Block 70 fighter order.
