U.S. Citizen Faces Charges for ISIS Involvement

Harafa Hussein Abdi was arrested for providing support to ISIS and plotting attacks in New York City.

Harafa Hussein Abdi, a 41-year-old U.S. citizen from Minneapolis, has been charged with providing material support to ISIS and receiving military-type training from the group.
Abdi was taken into custody overseas and transported to the United States, where he will face charges in Manhattan federal court.
During his time with ISIS in Somalia, Abdi carried an AK-47, participated in the group's media wing, and threatened to attack civilians in New York City.
Abdi left the ISIS camp in 2017 after his relationship with the group's leadership deteriorated, and was later arrested in East Africa.
The charges against Abdi include conspiring to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization and receiving military-type training from such an organization.
