U.S. Charges High-Ranking Hezbollah Member Over Decades of Terrorist Activity

- Samuel Salman El Reda, a high-ranking Hezbollah member, has been charged with terrorism by the U.S. Department of Justice for his alleged role in decades of terrorist activity, including the 1994 bombing in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people.
- El Reda, a dual Colombian-Lebanese citizen, is a member of Hezbollah’s Islamic Jihad Organization (IJO) and is currently based in Lebanon and remains at large.
- El Reda has been leading terrorist operations on behalf of Hezbollah and the IJO in South America, Asia and Lebanon since at least 1993.
- El Reda is charged with providing material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, conspiring to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization, aiding and abetting the receipt of military-type training from a designated foreign terrorist organization, and conspiring to receive military-type training from a designated foreign terrorist organization.
- The charges against El Reda were unsealed in a Manhattan federal court and reflect the U.S. Justice Department's commitment to bring those who engage in acts of terror to justice, regardless of how much time has passed since their crimes.
