U.S. charges Americans, Russians in suspected Kremlin-funded propaganda campaign

  • Four Americans in Florida and Georgia have been charged with acting as illegal agents of Russia to spread pro-Kremlin propaganda and influence U.S. elections.
  • Three Russians including the founder of the Anti-Globalization Movement of Russia and two FSB officers have also been charged in the influence campaign.
  • The campaign allegedly involved recruiting and funding U.S. political groups to act as unregistered agents of Russia and spread propaganda intended to divide Americans and interfere in elections.
  • A separate case charged a Russian woman with conspiring with the FSB to recruit U.S. academics and researchers to attend Russian-funded programs promoting Russian interests.
  • The indictments are part of the U.S. government's efforts to counter Russian interference and expose Kremlin-directed malign influence operations targeting democratic processes.
