Overview
- President Donald Trump said no U.S. government officials will attend the Nov. 22–23 G20 in Johannesburg, and Vice President J.D. Vance will not travel, according to reports.
- Trump justified the move by alleging killings of Afrikaner farmers and illegal land seizures, calling it a “total disgrace” that South Africa is hosting the summit.
- South African officials, including President Cyril Ramaphosa, rejected the claims as unsubstantiated and reiterated that white South Africans are not being persecuted.
- The boycott follows U.S. actions that include a record‑low refugee cap of 7,500 for FY2026 with priority for white South Africans, as well as earlier aid suspension, tariffs and a diplomatic expulsion.
- Trump has said he intends to host the 2026 G20 at his Doral resort in Miami, with the U.S. set to assume the G20 presidency next year.
