The rotation focuses on refining F2T2 targeting in contested airspace to reinforce deterrence on NATO’s eastern flank.

Overview

  • Two B-1B Lancers flew low over Riga’s Freedom Monument on Aug. 19 with two Hungarian and two Swedish JAS 39 Gripens in a NATO-authorized formation.
  • Three B-1Bs deployed from Dyess AFB to Ørland AB on Aug. 9 for Bomber Task Force Europe under the 345th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron and 489th Bomb Group.
  • Hungarian Gripens participating in the flyover are based at Šiauliai Air Base for a Baltic Air Policing rotation that began in early August.
  • U.S. bomber crews are training with Norwegian and other Allied air forces on find, fix, track and target processes and on operating against A2AD threats.
  • Latvia’s defense minister said the mission signaled NATO presence, transatlantic unity, and a shared commitment to the security of the Baltic region.
