U.S. Attorney’s Offices Collect Millions in Criminal and Civil Actions in FY 2023

Significant funds recovered through criminal actions, civil actions, and asset forfeitures, aiding victims and supporting law enforcement efforts.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California collected over $30.7 million in criminal and civil actions in Fiscal Year 2023, with a significant portion coming from criminal actions.
In a notable case, the government recovered and sold bitcoin controlled by a defendant, resulting in over $17.6 million in restitution paid directly to the victims.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Vermont collected over $3.1 million in criminal and civil actions in Fiscal Year 2023, and worked with other offices to collect an additional $76.8 million.
The District of Rhode Island collected nearly $7 million in criminal and civil actions in Fiscal Year 2023, with a slightly larger portion coming from civil actions.
All three offices also collected significant amounts in asset forfeiture actions, which are used to restore funds to crime victims and for various law enforcement purposes.
