US Attorney General Pam Bondi Reshapes Justice Department Priorities

Bondi dissolves key task forces on foreign influence and Russia sanctions while launching new initiatives focused on domestic and international issues.

Pam Bondi, recently sworn in as US Attorney General, has dissolved the Foreign Influence Task Force, previously tasked with enforcing the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA).
The Justice Department will now limit FARA enforcement to cases resembling traditional espionage by foreign governments, citing resource reallocation to other priorities.
Bondi also ended the KleptoCapture Task Force, which was established in 2022 to enforce sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
New initiatives include a department to investigate the October 2023 Hamas attack on Israel and a review of alleged misuse of the Justice Department under the Biden administration.
Additional policy shifts include reinstating the federal death penalty, dismantling diversity promotion programs, and redirecting focus toward irregular migration and other domestic concerns.
