Overview

  • On July 10, the Corps hosted a ceremony at Lower Granite to honor five decades of service supporting hydropower, flood control and wildlife habitat
  • A July 17 tour led by fisheries biologist Charles Barnes brought Family Farm Alliance members on-site to examine the dam’s fish ladder and habitat restoration measures
  • The 3,200-foot-long, 100-foot-high concrete gravity dam features a navigation lock, powerhouse and fish ladder vital for salmon migration on the Columbia Basin project
  • Innovations such as the 2001 Removable Spillway Weir and the latest passive integrated transponder tagging array have enhanced fish passage and monitoring
  • The facility’s six turbines generate up to 810 megawatts while its lock moves nearly 1.5 million tons of cargo annually, sustaining river commerce between Lewiston and the Pacific Ocean
