U.S. and Israeli Navies Conclude "Intrinsic Defender" Exercise in Israel

The five-day exercise showcased integrated air–maritime surveillance with specialized teams to sharpen joint responses to regional sea threats.

Overview

  • The bilateral drill ran Dec. 7–11 across the Mediterranean near Haifa and Nahariya as well as the Red Sea arena.
  • Forces practiced visit, board, search and seizure operations, diving and search, boarding scenarios, medical training, and mine and sabotage neutralization.
  • A U.S. P-8 Poseidon worked with an Israeli Sa'ar 5–class corvette to build a shared operational picture.
  • Participants included U.S. Navy divers, a U.S. Coast Guard maritime engagement team, and a global health engagement team.
  • Officials said the training boosts seamless combined operations in strategically vital waters, marking a return after the exercise was postponed in 2024 and following Israel’s move under CENTCOM in 2021.
