US and Australian Forces Continue Search for Sailor Missing From USS George Washington

Overview

  • The sailor was reported missing Monday afternoon after being believed to have gone overboard from the aircraft carrier during patrol operations in the Timor Sea.
  • Carrier Strike Group 5 initiated search and rescue procedures involving the cruiser USS Robert Smalls, destroyer USS Shoup, HSC-12 “Golden Falcons,” HSM-78 “Saberhawks” and multiple fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Australian Defence Force and Australian Border Force assets have joined U.S. Navy units in a coordinated effort to locate the missing sailor.
